Liberia Gears Up For Hip Hop Superstar Akon

Soaked in controversies and run-ins with law enforcement, international hip hop star Akon continues to shine both on and off the stage. His fan base continues to rise. despite recent negative publicity around him for the Trinidad night club incident with a 15-year old girl.

Akon has since apologized, but critics also blamed the girl's parents for allow the minor to go clubbing at that age.

Meanwhile, fresh reports from Monrovia, capital of Liberia indicate one of America’s leading R&B stars, Akon will pay a day visit to the war torn nation, during which he is expected to thrill Liberians live on April 15.

According to Cellcom Public Relations Manager, T-Max Jlateh, the award-winning Senegalese born American artist will visit Liberia on April 15th as guest of the cell phone company.

Speaking at a news conference Monday at Cellcom's offices in Monrovia, Mr. Jlateh said Akon will arrive in Liberia with a 14-man delegation to perform at a musical concert which would be held at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville on the same day.

He said Cellcom was sponsoring the visit of Akon so as to entertain its many subscribers. Mr. Jlateh said the visit of Akon was intended to add new dimension to the company's operation in Liberia.

He said following the visit of Akon, “people would see a new Cellcom embarking on other services.” He did not elaborate.

Jlateh said the 25-year old international star with Senegalese root is coming with his musical equipment, and added that the visit will last for a day.

After winning music fans over with his 2003 multi-platinum debut Trouble, the musical superstar singer returns with more stories from his personal journey via his sophomore CD Konvicted.
